Need a hand with Layiso? The answers below cover the most common questions. For anything else, email dawid@zbinski.dev — we aim to reply within two business days.
Permissions
Layiso says it can’t record my screen
macOS requires the Screen Recording permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, enable Layiso, then relaunch the app.
Camera or microphone isn’t listed as a source
Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (or Microphone) and make sure Layiso is enabled. External devices must be connected before you open the source picker.
Keystroke captions aren’t recording
Keystroke captions need the Input Monitoring permission. Enable Layiso under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring. Keystrokes are only captured while a recording is running and are saved to a local SRT file — see the privacy policy.
Recording
Where are my recordings saved?
Each source records to its own file in the output folder you picked in Layiso. Video tracks are saved as MOV, audio tracks as M4A, captions and keystrokes as SRT, plus optional FCPXML (Final Cut Pro) and EDL (DaVinci Resolve) timeline exports.
Why is my recording limited to 30 minutes?
The free tier includes one recording per day of up to 30 minutes with every capture type. Layiso Pro — a one-time purchase, no subscription — removes both limits.
Transcription
The first transcription takes a long time
On first use Layiso downloads the on-device speech model, which can take a few minutes depending on your connection. After that, transcription runs entirely offline.
Purchases
How do I restore Layiso Pro on a new Mac?
Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used to buy Layiso Pro, then the purchase is restored automatically when the app launches; if not, use the restore option on the upgrade screen.
How do I request a refund?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds go through Apple as well: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the Layiso Pro purchase.
